Our clients fell in love with their 124-year-old Victorian, but it came with a tiny kitchen and small family bath that had both been DIYed in the 1990s. They knew they wanted to renovate to create a more functional layout for their family—with a larger kitchen at the heart of the home. With the help of a local interior designer, they came to us with a beautiful plan and we worked together to make it a reality.

Highlights from this project:

  • Because the kitchen’s partially open concept on the main floor, the flow between the rooms from old and new was really important. With the original wood trim as reference, we created custom millwork that connected the spaces in the kitchen, dining room, mudroom and hall—designed to match what was already in the home from the beginning.

  • The home’s fireplace had already been converted to gas, so we removed an entire chimney stack from the roof to the ground (brick-by-brick) in order to make space for a larger family bathroom and dining room.

  • The custom tile arch in the shower is such a beautiful detail that makes the whole room feel special.
