Featured Project
Lyndale Craftsman Bungalow
Project: Kitchen, Bathroom, Whole Home
Location: Lyndale, Minneapolis, MN
Architectural Style: Craftsman bungalow built in 1920
Clients: a family who plan to make the space an Airbnb rental
Team Effort: Tusk Builders, Paskar Woodworking, All, inc.
The goal with this craftsman-style home was to make the most of its existing charm—and work within a small business owner’s budget—to turn it into the cutest Airbnb in the area. We carefully selected materials that would withstand short-term renters, restored the already-gorgeous built-ins and chose period-appropriate finishes that would help the character shine. We intentionally relied on secondhand fixtures, salvage materials and green building techniques, which means this home is now the opposite of cookie-cutter.
Highlights from this project:
The resourceful philosophy behind the project was such a highlight in itself. We loved being able to show off what we do best—and the magic that can be made when you pay attention what you already have.
The new cabinets living side-by-side as friends in the kitchen with the 100-year-old original cabinets. Rather than trying (probably in vain) to match the originals, we introduced a complementary style for the new cabinets.
The floors! Gross carpeting went goodbye and we refinished the original oak and maple hardwood floors to their former glory. And that checkerboard kitchen floor was just the right amount of bold we wanted for this space.
